New Waves: American Literature in the 60s and 70s

The 1960s and early 1970s were marked by numerous upheavals in American politics, society, and culture. The Vietnam War was raging, while the protests the war were shaking the nation. Concurrently, marginalized communities fought vigorously for their rights, seeking equality, justice, and a voice in American culture.

At the same, the United States experienced a surge in consumerism and the dawning of the digital age. We can examine how American writers engaged with, satirized, and celebrated these transformations. We will read: Audre Lorde, Toni Morrison, Thomas Pynchon, Philip K. Dick and many others.
